‘I’d be stunned’: Alasdair Gold says there’s now a signing that he’ll be shocked if Tottenham don’t make soon

The north London club have just lost arguably the greatest striker in Premier League history in the shape of Harry Kane, and they need to beef up their frontline if they’re going to thrive in this post-Kane era.

Luckily, it sounds as though help could be on the way.

According to Alasdair Gold, writing in his Q&A for Football.London, Tottenham should have an attacker through the door sooner rather than later.

The journalist says that he’d be stunned if Spurs didn’t soon sign an attacker, suggesting that Gift Orban and Brennan Johnson are the two leading candidates to come in soon.

    New striker incoming

Gold shared what he knows about Spurs’ transfer plans.

“I’d be stunned if they don’t bring in someone new who can play through the centre though, like a Gift Orban or Brennan Johnson-type, or simply Gift Orban or Brennan Johnson,”

    Long-term solutions

Orban and Johnson are both incredibly exciting players, but it has to be said that they wouldn’t be immediate solutions to Spurs’ striking problems.

Tottenham are trying to replace a player who scored 30 goals last season. You don’t do that by signing someone who scored eight in the Premier League last season or even worse a player who has never played at this level before.

With both players being under the age of 23 though, there’s every chance that they could grow into the players Spurs need them to be, and, eventually, this could prove to be a smart bit of business.

Johnson or Orban wouldn’t solve Spurs’ problems straight away, but in a few years’ time, they could be spearheading an incredibly dangerous Tottenham attack.

DIRECTOR SAYS NO WEST HAM OR TOTTENHAM BID FOR £47M ACE ‘LIKE EDEN HAZARD’

Rennes insist that have not yet received an ‘official offer’ for Jeremy Doku amid interest from Premier League trio West Ham United, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City.

Earlier this week, former Belgium international Philippe Albert told RTBF that a move to Pep Guardiola’s Premier League champions would not be a classic case of too much, too soon for a 21-year-old winger still far from the finished article.

Jeremy Doku’s ‘incredible’ Eden Hazard-like abilities, Albert argues, makes the £45 million whizzkid a punt worth taking as far as Manchester City are concerned.

“He has incredible qualities that we discovered at Anderlecht,” said the one-time Newcastle favourite. “I don’t think the step (to Manchester City) is too high. He has the qualities to impose himself in the Premier League, or any other league in the world.

“If he is physically at 100 per cent, he will make his mark and scare the opponents. He’s a bit like Eden Hazard at the beginning of his career, with double and triple gears that can really hurt (defenders).”

Manchester City agree terms with Rennes’ Jeremy Doku

Doku did his blossoming reputation no harm with his brilliant performance in Rennes’ 5-1 opening-day demolition of Metz. The former Liverpool target has already agreed to terms for a five-year contract at the Etihad Stadium, according to Belgian writer Sacha Tavolieri, despite rival interest from both West Ham and Tottenham could see a bidding battle break out in the remaining weeks of the window.

Despite persistent speculations to the contrary, Rennes’ sports director asserts that the Brittany-based club has not yet received any “official offer” for a player who turned down Liverpool when he was a teenager.

“There is still one week till the transfer deadline. Stade Rennais Online quotes Florian Maurice as saying, “Things are going to happen.”We’ll aim to become experts in as many areas as we can, which is not always simple.

“One, possibly two people will depart. If we need to locate a successor, we’ll try to think about it then. It’s too soon to let you know.

West Ham and Tottenham in pursuit

Of course, Manchester City has a greater purchasing power than West Ham and Tottenham. Ironically, though, City might unintentionally open the door for West Ham to agree to Rennes’ £47 million asking price, with Lucas Paqueta’s prospective move to the Etihad adding yet another huge sum of money to David Moyes’ bank account.

West Ham is also interested in Ajax’s Mohammed Kudus.

According to The Independent, Tottenham is also interested in Doku. After Harry Kane’s last-week transfer to Bayern Munich, Spurs had money to spend.
