Tottenham Hotspur’s key man ‘to undergo foot surgery

James Maddison, a playmaker for Tottenham Hotspur, is allegedly scheduled to have a scan soon for the injury he suffered during Saturday’s 2-0 victory over Manchester United.

Ange Postecoglou led Tottenham to their first win in the Premier League against the Red Devils thanks to goals from Pape Sarr and Lisandro Martinez, who also scored an own goal.

Maddison made his professional debut at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, playing the entire 90 minutes of what was also Postecoglou’s first home game.

However, the England international sparked concern by emerging into the mixed zone on crutches after the game, raising fears of a potential absence through injury.

Maddison allegedly told reporters that it was just a preventative step, but according to The Athletic, the 26-year-old has been sent for a scan that will happen at some point on Tuesday.

The Lilywhites are evaluating the damage while they wait to determine the extent of the former Leicester City player’s injury, according to the source, which claims that Maddison is having a suspected foot issue.

Since joining Spurs earlier this summer, Maddison has already cemented himself as a major member of the team. In a 2-2 draw with Brentford last weekend, he recorded two assists on his debut.

With the help of two successful dribbles, two completed passes, and five accurate long balls out of six tries, the Englishman had another great afternoon against Man United.

Rodrigo Bentancur, Maddison’s teammate in the midfield, is still recovering from a significant knee injury, adding to Tottenham’s long list of problems to cope with during the early parts of the season.

It will probably be a few more months before the Uruguayan is back on the field after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament against Maddison’s former team Leicester in February.

This summer, Ryan Sessegnon and Bryan Gil also had procedures, with the former having undergone an operation to treat a hamstring problem. The latter, who has struggled with his fitness throughout his tenure with Tottenham, also had surgery.

The Spanish teenager and Sessegnon are unlikely to make a comeback before October at the earliest, while fellow left winger Gil is recovering from a groin procedure.

Alfie Whiteman, a backup goalkeeper, also has an ankle issue, but on a positive note, Cristian Romero made a full recovery from a head injury in time to start alongside Micky van de Ven against Man United.

Three days before they face London rival Fulham in the first round of the EFL Cup, Tottenham’s next match is at Bournemouth on Saturday at noon.
