In light of a $51 development, West Ham United is now seeking a last-minute agreement for Pedro of Flamengo.

According to The Daily Mirror, West Ham has focused on Flamengo forward Pedro, who is valued at $51 million.

The publication reported on page 52 of its print edition on August 31 that the Hammers are considering a move for the Brazilian international after failing in their attempt to recruit his compatriot Yuri Alberto from Corinthians.

Tim Steidten, the technical director of the Irons, is currently in Brazil in an effort to sign a new forward. The 26-year-old’s acquisition is now a top priority for the German.

    Get it done

As West Ham looks to add a new forward before the transfer deadline on Friday (1 September), time is swiftly running out.

After Sky Sports reported on its live transfer feed on August 29 (11:04am) that it would be “problematic” to complete a transfer for the 22-year-old due to the amount of representatives and intermediaries involved, it is not surprising that a deal for Alberto has fallen through.

Steidten is probably already assessing the situation to determine whether it is feasible to make the move for Pedro within the next 36 hours. The move for Pedro should, ideally, be more uncomplicated.

The Brazilian, who has made six appearances for his country since being named to the World Cup team last year, has a £51 million release clause, but the Mirror claims the Hammers are seeking to spend “much less” than that to get him.

The forward has a great record with Flamengo, having scored 94 goals in 197 games for the Rio de Janeiro-based club, suggesting he might be a hit in East London if he can adjust to the Premier League.

Maxwel Cornet could quit West Ham United as a result of Everton links.

Everton are interested in signing Maxwel Cornet, while West Ham are interested in signing Juventus winger Filip Kostic, according to Mike McGrath.

The Ivory Coast international could be allowed to depart on loan, according to a Telegraph journalist on Thursday afternoon (31 August).

The Toffees are keen on signing the left-sided attacker ahead of the deadline and the 26-year-old has emerged as a transfer target.

“Everton are exploring a deal for West Ham forward Maxwel Cornet,” McGrath stated on Twitter. West Ham are negotiating a deal for Filip Kostic in a similar scenario, allowing the Ivory Coast international to be loaned to Everton.”

    That makes sense.

Cornet occupies a space in both the registration and the payroll bill, so showing him the door, even if it’s on loan, makes sense.

He’ll get more game time at Goodison Park than he will at the London Stadium, therefore it makes perfect sense to let him to do so.

It also clears the way for Kostic, a player the Hammers want to sign and who will greatly boost their first team.

    West Ham

David Moyes appears to be interested in him, and there has been a last-minute scramble to capture his services before the deadline.

He is a periphery player for Juventus, so he will be allowed to depart this summer, whether on loan or permanently.

He may be a short-term solution, but if he can help guide the Hammers to a top-ten finish and another successful European campaign, no one will grumble.

In other West Ham news, the team has begun preliminary talks with a Premier League player who appears willing to leave his club this summer.
