The FA and FIFA were looking into West Ham player Lucas Paqueta for possible betting violations, and the news came as a complete surprise.

Manchester City sought to sign the Brazilian magnifico from the Hammers, and that decision had been made as a result of a bolt from the blue moon.

Before the allegations—which Paqueta fiercely denies—came to light, an agreement had apparently already been reached. As a result, any possible transfer to Manchester City has now, at least temporarily, fallen through.

Paqueta was still a West Ham player as a result. And given that Paqueta has been dominant recently, helping West Ham defeat, it has had no impact whatsoever on his form.

He accomplished this with a magnificent assist and all-around effort; a performance that Pep Guardiola and Manchester City would have been sure to observe as they reflect on what might have been.

After having a rough start at West Ham, Paqueta has developed into a player who, at times, is unplayable for the east Londoners.

The Man City offer demonstrated that those outside of the West Ham community were aware of Paqueta’s abilities.

Neville remarked on Sky Sports, “What I think they’ve done with Paqueta is they’ve proven they have an £80 million player which has generated an aura about Paqueta.

You may think, “Wait a minute, we’ve got an £80 million player in our team this season,” when Manchester City approaches you with that kind of bid and he subsequently decides to stay because of a problem.

They felt so much better about having him, which is probably fair to say. Before, they were aware of his talent as a player. You may, however, think, “Wow, we’ve got one hell of a player here” when the top team in the world at the time makes a move for him and he joins your squad.

The team also has a player who, at the end of the following season, may be worth another £80 million (and who they can sell), so they can restock.

Just take in his presence for the moment, though. On the ball, he has such grace. I appreciate how he paces the pass and rolls it into players while moving it to the right side and away from the opponent.
