‘I didn’t say that’: Gary Neville shares what really shocked him about Tottenham in NLD yesterday

Gary Neville has acknowledged that he was taken aback by Tottenham Hotspur’s performance in yesterday’s North London Derby.

After Tottenham’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium, Neville said on his podcast that he was “pleasantly surprised” by the result.

Tottenham fought back from behind twice yesterday at Arsenal to secure a merited point.

Son Heung-min was the standout for Spurs that day as the South Korean forward maintained his impressive form by scoring twice in the local derby.

It’s fair to say that Ange Postecoglou’s team will have surprised a few people with their performance, despite the fact that it was unquestionably Tottenham’s biggest test of the season thus far.

Neville acknowledged that he had expected Spurs to lose on Sunday, but he was nonetheless surprised by how well they fared under pressure.

Neville on what shocked him about Spurs

On his podcast, Neville said that he initially believed that the talent gap between Arsenal and Spurs would be ‘too huge’.

However, the former Manchester United player applauded Spurs for their spirited effort.

Neville admitted, “I’ll be honest with you, I thought Arsenal were going to win today before the game. “I predicted that Arsenal will win this game.

“I predicted they would win relatively easily, that the talent gap would be too great, and that we may have a glimpse of the old Spurs in terms of how they would crumble under pressure, but that hasn’t happened.

I’m therefore happy to be sitting here tonight. I didn’t say that before the game; I don’t go back and change the past. However, in actuality, that’s how I felt.

Given how well Arsenal had played against PSV earlier in the week, it’s safe to say that many people were anticipating Spurs to suffer their first loss of the year.

Tottenham has struggled in the past at the Emirates, but yesterday they played fearlessly.

Without a doubt, Postecoglou will be pleased with the performance, and it proves that Spurs should be regarded seriously this year.

Of course, the Australian manager’s stay is still in its early stages, but in such a short period of time, he has dramatically changed this Tottenham team.
