New target: Tottenham could consider swoop for exciting “threat” who Lange already knows

Lange has ties to a player who he has previously signed.

The new technical director for the Lilywhites isn’t hanging around.

According to reports, Tottenham Hotspur may choose to pursue a move for a new full-back in January. Johan Lange, the team’s recently recruited technical director, is already familiar with the player from a former Premier League position.

    Spurs form and best players…

With six victories and two draws in their first eight games of the new season, Ange Postecoglou’s team has had an incredible start to the season. They are currently tied for first place in the standings with rival Arsenal, and they are the only two teams in the division still without a loss.

Because of the current absence of several key Lilywhites players—Son Heung-Min of South Korea, James Maddison of England, and Dejan Kulusevski of Sweden—on international duty, club executives have been able to begin evaluating their transfer options in advance of the upcoming season.

Aston Villa right-back Matty Cash, who signed a contract with Unai Emery’s team in 2020 after leaving Nottingham Forest, is one player the N17 leadership may want to target (Transfermarkt – Cash statistics). Cash has made 109 appearances for his new team.

The 26-year-old Polish international is drawing interest despite having four more years left on his contract (Aston Villa contracts), since he has emerged as his team’s second-best defensive player thus far this season (WhoScored – Aston Villa statistics).

    Matty Cash transfer update

Given his relationship with Lange, Spurs have been mentioned as a team that may make an unexpected bid for the player in January, according to GiveMeSport, which has provided a transfer update on Matty Cash:

“Another Aston Villa player Lange might consider is the daring right-back, who has shown promise in his three years at Villa Park. Due of Cash’s skill at moving forward to support assaults, this could mesh well with the new Spurs manager’s philosophy of placing a high value on the full-back position.

“Emmerson Royal and Pedro Porro are Tottenham’s two senior alternatives at right-back, although both players have struggled at different points in their Spurs careers, so there’s always room to step-up.

“Royal finds himself as the back-up option in the early stages of the season, meaning the Brazilian could seek a new challenge in the near future and this would open up a position for a right-back to come in and Cash could be a very solid option.”

    What is Matty Cash’s salary?

Cash’s current salary in the Midlands is £80,000 per week, which he has more than earned in his three years at the club (due to his salary at Aston Villa). If Cash were to sign a contract with Tottenham, Postecoglou and Daniel Levy would be quite fortunate.

The talented player from Slough has made 21 tackles so far this season, which is tied for the most in his team with Boubacar Kamara (FBRef – Aston Villa statistics). However, he can also use his speed to break down the wing and open up opportunities for himself and his teammates.

With 264 career appearances, Emery’s offensive “threat,” praised by analyst Alex McLeish, has notched up 51 contributions (27 assists and 24 goals), and Cash’s positive effect is evident as well, having won Player of the Year at both Villa and Forest.
