    Rugby World Cup 2023 final: John Smit and Schalk Brits, two former Springboks, explain why they wanted the All Blacks to compete.

    South African icons John Smit and Schalk Brits joined former Springbok Hanyani Shimange to preview the Rugby World Cup final on the Rugby World Cup YouTube channel.

    Smit on the team’s desire to face the All Blacks in the championship game

    The captain of the team that won the 2007 World Cup claims that supporters from South Africa and New Zealand were interested in this potential championship game.

    “I believe that both sets of fans will have prayed for this World Cup final, and as a result, we are receiving the final that we always desired against our longtime rival, the All Blacks.”

    Why do we discuss this conflict more than any other conflict? The All Blacks are the only side that has defeated us more often than any other team, and this is due to the respect that exists between the two nations.

    “That’s the reality, and they bring out the best in us, they test us the most, and they’re the team we want to beat the most. They love the game as much as we do, and their passion for it trumps any form of common sense, just like we love the game,”

    Brits on the two styles of play

    According to the former test hooker, the All Blacks’ winning playing style is the reason why they are so adored by the rest of the world’s rugby players.

    “Returning to rugby style, people adore the All Blacks because of the style of rugby they play,” said the speaker.

    According to Brits, the Springboks are back to playing to their strengths and have reverted to doing so.

    “I believe there have been times in our history when we have attempted to play in the Australian and New Zealandian styles, but we have since returned to the South African style; we want to play in the style that is most like us,” said a South African official.

    We play to our strengths and have scrum, maul, and kick in our DNA.

    He reiterates Smit’s stance and emphasizes how eager he is for the Springboks to play the All Blacks in his final statement.

    I’m so excited to face New Zealand in a final, I really can’t wait.

    Smit and Brits discuss scuffles

    The final scrum in the Springboks’ quarterfinal match against England, where South Africa was given what would ultimately prove to be the game-winning penalty, was the subject of some dispute, according to Shimange.

    A comment from Brits expresses his desire for a single, decisive scrum to decide the winner.

    Smit says: “Go and watch rugby league, if you don’t like scrums, then go play league.”

    “If you want to whine about the scrums, go watch league.”

    On crowd boos directed at Ben O’Keeffe

    France vs. South Africa’s quarterfinal was officiated by New Zealand referee Ben O’Keeffe, and in the days since, French fans have been very vocal about how well he handled the match.

    O’Keeffe was booed vociferously by the spectators as he entered the field to officiate the semifinal between South Africa and England.

    Referee O’Keeffe’s booing by the audience, according to Shimange, was “disgusting.” The worst moment, in Smit’s opinion, was when he could not believe it.
