John Terry bites back at Spurs star as Chelsea legend mocks Tottenham

Chelsea icon John Terry has hit back at Tottenham ace James Maddison on social media as Ange Postecoglou laments VAR’s impact after Chelsea defeat

James Maddison was humorously made fun of by Chelsea legend John Terry on social media following the Blues’ 4-1 victory against nine-man Tottenham on Monday. The North Londoners saw five goals disallowed and two men sent off in a wild contest.

Spurs’ undefeated Premier League record came to an abrupt end when Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie were sent off. The injuries suffered by Maddison and Micky van de Ven caused head coach Ange Postecoglou great concern.

Chelsea went wild at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium against a very weakened Spurs squad, despite their initial struggles to break down the nine men. Cole Palmer scored a first-half penalty, and Nicolas Jackson’s late hat-trick completed a commanding win.

Following the game, club veteran Terry was feeling jovial and shared pictures of himself and his wife Toni celebrating. When the tequila is served and the Spurs are defeated 4-1 on a school night, you end up dancing and singing on the bar, according to the Instagram description.

After seeing the post, Maddison commented that Chelsea’s victory was not nearly as simple as Terry had claimed. When Romero and Udogie were sent off, Spurs had the upper hand in the first fifteen minutes and could have led 2-0 had Son Heung-min remained onside.

“Jesus, you were sleeping when the time was 11 v 11 first 15, JT?” Maddison made a comment and included an emoji of a monkey with its eyes closed.

However, Terry, a former England defender, had the final laugh. He angrily retorted, citing Chelsea’s stellar record against Spurs throughout the years, saying, “Don’t worry, mate, you will get used to it!”

Since 2019, Chelsea has only lost twice in their previous 14 games against Spurs, their rivals in London. Mauricio Pochettino, the manager, maintained that his team earned the victory this week even if they had trouble breaking down nine men in the second half.

“I believe we were worthy winners. We put too much pressure on them to make errors. The Argentine, who has coached Spurs before, said, “I think Tottenham was better in the first 15 minutes and then I think we matched the game.”

“We compare this game to the one in which Tottenham defeated Liverpool, but I think everything that happened in the game today was fair. We played well and forced them to make a mistake. Otherwise, I think everything that you can see during the game was fair.”
