‘Failed to impress’: Daniel Levy wants to get rid of 29-year-old in the January transfer window

Levy wants to use the January transfer window to get rid of the 29-year-old.

Eric Dier will be offloaded during the January transfer window, according to Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy.

After failing to make an impression on Ange throughout the preseason, Dier was heavily linked to a summer departure from Spurs.

Dier decided to stay at Tottenham and even turned down a transfer to Fulham, choosing instead to fight for a spot in the team in spite of interest from other teams.

However, Dier stayed with Spurs when the team failed to sign a new center-back and let go of Davinson Sanchez and Tanganga. The Spurs had attempted to trade the player throughout the summer.

Dier’s contract expires in the summer of the next year, therefore the club chairman sees the January transfer window as a chance to offload him and maybe keep the player from becoming a free agency.

Johan Lange, the new sporting director, has made finding a replacement center-back a top priority in January, especially in light of Micky van de Ven’s injury. Spurs have been connected to players like Marc Guehi of Palace, Edmond Tapsoba of Bayer Leverkusen, and Lloyd Kelly of Bournemouth.

Sporting Lisbon and AS Roma, who are now led by former Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho, have both reportedly showed interest in acquiring Dier.

It goes on to say that although Levy would prefer to let the player go in January, the England international is more likely to play out the remaining months of his Tottenham contract. This would allow him to leave on a free transfer and possibly negotiate a better deal with a different team in the summer.

Dier began his first league match of the season against Wolves, but he wasn’t at his best and was held accountable for both of Spurs’ goals in a 2-1 loss.

Spurs will need to recruit a defender in January before moving him, though, as he is the sole backup option at the position.

Johan Lange, the new sports director of Tottenham, has made it clear that finding a replacement center-back is a top priority for the forthcoming transfer window, particularly in light of Micky van de Ven’s chronic injury against Chelsea.

Numerous players have been linked to a transfer to Spurs, including Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace, Edmond Tapsoba from Bayer Leverkusen, and Lloyd Kelly from Bournemouth.
