Many believed Tottenham would make a huge move to recruit a ready-made replacement to help boost the front line when Harry Kane departed the team at the beginning of August, but that did not materialize.

Rather, Heung-min Son has been the main man for Ange Postecoglou, and the South Korean has done a fantastic job leading the way. Son appears to be enjoying the opportunity to be the main center of Tottenham’s attack, having already scored eight goals this season across all competitions (transfermarkt).

Alejo Veliz, the striker whom Tottenham did wind up bringing in, has seen little action since his arrival and has mostly been used as a substitute during his few outings.

Will Alejo Veliz leave on loan?

It was suggested last week in the print version of the Italian news source Corriere dello Sport (9/11/23), and it was confirmed this past week (14/11/23) that Bologna would be willing to give Veliz some first team play.

Apparently, Bologna is quite interested in Veliz, since they want a new striker for their Serie A team.Bologna thought they had “practically” closed the deal earlier this year before Spurs made their attempt, and they had in fact been in negotiations to sign Veliz previously.

Given that Veliz “isn’t playing” for Tottenham, Bologna may be interested in giving Veliz a chance. The article does, however, state that Spurs might not be as enthusiastic about the concept because they regard Veliz as a key player for the future. I would much prefer hang onto every player we can right now, given our unfortunate injury luck. Veliz should thus stay put unless we want to bring in a new striker in January, and perhaps he will soon be given the opportunity to play for the first team.

Sadly, Tottenham’s loss in the Carabao Cup has restricted the chances that some of the young players have to make an impression; perhaps, they will have the chance to do so in the FA Cup.
