The official for the West Ham match who was fired over the Spurs penalty issue has been named as the referee.

The referee for the Spurs penalty issue has been replaced, and he will officiate the West Ham match.

There will be a lot on the line when fierce rivals Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham play in the Premier League on Thursday night.

In the battle for the European spots, David Moyes’ team would trail Spurs by just three points if West Ham won.

With their first victory in five games, Tottenham might climb to fourth place, contingent on events elsewhere.

Official dropped over Spurs controversy named referee for West Ham clash

West Ham and Tottenham Hotspur are still in love. And this particular London derby is known for its fiery and exciting confrontations.

Clearly, a capable group of authorities will be required. But instead of that, the game is being run by a man with comparatively little expertise.

The referee for the Spurs penalty issue has been replaced, and he will officiate the West Ham match.

Despite only being a member of the Select Group of Referees since the previous season, Michael Salisbury has been named the official for West Ham’s trip to Tottenham in north London.

Only six Premier League games have been overseen by Salisbury this season.

Spurs fans may remember Salisbury well and the reason for that will concern some Hammers fans.

PGMOL chief was forced to apologise after blunder let Spurs off hook

since he was removed from the Premier League near the conclusion of the previous campaign for failing to call for a review of a Brighton penalty that was clearly in the game against Tottenham.

It also proved costly when Brighton fell to Spurs 2-1, requiring PGMOL head Howard Webb to issue an apology to the Seagulls for Salisbury’s mistake during the match.

West Ham’s apology will be useless if any of their fierce rivals suffer a setback.

Salisbury is a player who West Ham supporters may recognize from their team’s most recent 3-2 victory over Nottingham Forest.

The match between Tottenham and West Ham will have John Brooks serving as the video assistant referee. During this season, he has officiated ten Premier League games, including West Ham’s 3-1 victory against Chelsea at home in August.

Tottenham Hotspur vs West Ham has the rather unusual kick-off time of 8.15pm on Thursday and is being shown live on Amazon Prime.
