Hugo Lloris a ‘realistic possibility’ for Newcastle from Tottenham after Nick Pope injury

We are excited to have Paul Robinson, a former England goalkeeper, join us as an exclusive columnist. Paul will provide his thoughts on the main topics of discussion at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium every week.

Paul Robinson claims that Hugo Lloris is a “better option” than Eddie Howe’s existing backups to the injured Nick Pope, making him a “realistic possibility” for Newcastle to buy from Tottenham.

The Magpies’ starting midfielder will miss four months of action after dislocating his shoulder against Manchester United at the beginning of December [Sky Sports, 6 December].

Both former Old Trafford number one David de Gea and veteran Spurs starter and captain Lloris, according to former England goalkeeper Robinson, would be an improvement above Loris Karius and Martin Dubravka.

Robinson believes a move to St. James’ Park is a possibility because Lloris hasn’t played a single minute under Ange Postecoglou since he joined the team in the summer and Guglielmo Vicario solidified his starting position. The Frenchman’s contract is set to expire at the end of the current campaign.

“As far as Newcastle, yeah, it’s a realistic possibility for them with their financial fair play,” he exclusively stated to Tottenham News. We already know how near the line they are.

Therefore, Eddie Howe has quite wisely stated in the press that he is considering his current goalkeepers and believes they are capable of holding the fort until Nick Pope returns in order for them to bring in a goalkeeper in January.

He must state that since he needs his goalkeepers by the end of January. Karius and Dubravka, the two he has, are not on the same level as Nick Pope.

Hugo Lloris and David de Gea are two more possibilities that you can consider; both are superior to what he now has, but he needs to be strategic in his speech.

“For Lloris, if that is how he wants to go about things, then you have to question his age, his desire to play, his determination and passion to play at the highest level, be it in the Premier League, back home in France, or anywhere else.

“I think Lloris or De Gea is a better option than what Newcastle have already got, but his personal situation plays a bigger role than anything because of his age.”
