Report :Postecoglou says missing international stars have a ‘big price to pay’ for Tottenham

Spurs will be without Heung-min Son, Pape Matar Sarr and Yves Bissouma for the month of January

Ange Postecoglou maintains that he would never rule out recruiting a player based only on ethnicity and claims that losing his Asian and African players to mid-season tournaments is “a small price to pay” for having them at Tottenham.

Starting with Friday’s FA Cup third-round match at home against Burnley, Spurs will be without captain and talisman Heung-min Son as well as midfielders Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr for as long as six weeks.Son is competing for South Korea at the Asian Cup in Qatar, while Bissouma of Mali and Sarr of Senegal are competing in the concurrent Africa Cup of Nations in the Ivory Coast.

“It would be unfortunate if that were the case, as you would be deprived of some incredible talent,” stated Postecoglou, the former Australian manager who led his team to the Asian Cup in 2015.

“An Asian player who spans generations has been playing for our club. I consider it a very tiny price to pay to lose him for five weeks every four years.

“I think it’s important, and I love international football.” Although I dislike how packed the schedule has become, the tournaments they are now attending are important ones. They aren’t merely things that have been cobbled together in recent years.

“Both the Asia Cup and the African Cup of Nations hold great significance for these countries. These are the folks you have to understand; this is their upbringing. For them, it’s more than simply a football match when they represent their nation and don the uniform since here is where a lot of who they are now originated. Therefore, even though I’m sure Sonny and Pape would have like to be here with us, it doesn’t take away from what they accomplish there”I would never rule out somebody because they’re going to represent their country. I think representing your country helps a player develop both professionally and personally.”.
