After playing collegiate football for six years, Alan Bowman was having so much fun that he petitioned the NCAA to play for seven. The former Michigan quarterback declared on Thursday that his request had been approved. He will spend one more year at Oklahoma State2018 saw Bowman matriculate into college in a recruitment class led by fellow quarterback Trevor Lawrence, who is now playing in the NFL for the third time. He was ranked third on the depth chart of two consecutive Big Ten title and postseason teams as a Wolverine, behind only Cade McNamara and J.J. McCarthy. With just 11 pass attempts in six games overall, Bowman was visible.
He used the transfer portal in December 2022, after Michigan lost to TCU in the playoffs, and finally returned to the Big 12 at Oklahoma State.
After taking over as the starting quarterback for the Cowboys in late September, he led the team to the Big 12 championship game, which they ultimately lost to Texas. In the Texas Bowl, Bowman led Texas A&M to a 31-23 victory by throwing for a season-high 402 yards. With 3,460 yards, 15 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions, he completed 61 percent of his throws by the end of the season.
Due to the NCAA’s fairly lenient redshirt policy, a player may continue to be eligible for the next season as long as he participates in no more than four games. Bowman may have qualified for any or both of his Michigan seasons, and it appears that he did.
