“AMAZING”: Alan Shearer Pines for “Wonderful” Celtic Turnaround

The all-time top scorer in the Premier League, Alan Shearer, has expressed his opinions about the exciting possibility of watching the Scottish Premiership winners show off in England’s top football stadium.

In an honest interview on The Rest is Football, Shearer expressed his excitement about the prospect of seeing teams like the Bhoys take on England’s best players, calling it “amazing.”

Even though the idea is appealing, Shearer admits in a sobering way that it is unlikely to come true, much to his own obvious disappointment.

The plain truth is that our team currently lacks the financial resources necessary to compete at the highest level of English football. However, it’s impossible to resist daydreaming about a scenario in which Celtic, supported by a budget on par with the biggest names in sports, would no longer be the laughingstock of European football.

“With the size of those two enormous football clubs,” Shearer remarked. That could only be beneficial to our league. There is an incredible atmosphere in those grounds.

“They are two enormous clubs, and they have amazing support globally. Yes, they should be in the Premier League; that would be fantastic. “But I don’t think we are ever going to see it – it’s never going to happen,” is the sobering reality check that follows.

Soccer is evolving, and although excitement about an eventual Premier League has subsided, there will eventually need to be a significant shift in the way European football is organized.

For years, there have been discussions about Atlantic leagues and other things, but nothing has materialized. I would like to think that Celtic won’t still be playing Scottish football full-time ten or twenty years from now.
