When Frank McAvennie has strong opinions about Celtic, he doesn’t hold back.
Additionally, the team’s former striker has been transparent about which members of Brendan Rodgers’ first team roster he needs to cut before the January transfer window closes.
Celtic has already seen Adam Montgomery, Nat Phillips, Kwon, and Yosuke Ideguchi depart Parkhead this month; however, only Ideguchi was a permanent deal.
The 64-year-old pundit McAvennie is certain that the Hornets must part ways with a significant number of players—up to ten, in his estimation.
And although he did not specifically identify all of these players in his interview with Football Insider, he did name three: James McCarthy, Mikey Johnston, and David Turnbull.

“They need to get rid of a lot of players,” McAvennie stated. About ten players, in my opinion, must go during this window.
James McCarthy should be placed on loan and removed from the team because he is not playing and is signed to a five-year contract worth of money.
He won’t ever come close to the starting lineup. You want to see him play football, but he’s getting great money and his agent is doing a great job for him.
“In my opinion, Mikey Johnston must be fired. You can’t keep giving Mickey chances; there are better players coming through who deserve to be given an opportunity.
“He has been there for a long time, but I have had enough. He has never established himself or been selected for the first team. However, a lot of people need to go in my opinion.
Turnbull could go because there are so many players coming through in the midfield. They seem like better choices than Turnbull. He’s played well, he’s done okay.
