Although Taylor Swift and Swag Surfin’ are complete opposites in the music industry, many now consider them to be interchangeable.

Earlier this month, during the Kansas City Chiefs’ game against the Miami Dolphins, Swag Surfin’ made his primetime NFL playoff debut. That’s what they called it, anyway. Pop sensation Taylor Swift attended the game to watch her boyfriend, tight end Travis Kelce of the Chiefs, compete in the AFC Wildcard Round. She joined the rest of the group in engaging in what has grown to be a HBCU crowd favorite more than ten years ago.

Willie Gay, the defensive back for the Chiefs, requested that the song be played.

“He’s a classic,” Kelce remarked. “Since I’ve been here, the fourth quarter has been incredible. It’s a big-time moment, big-time like drive in the game for our defense; they play a highlight video with the song ‘Swag surf,’ and it gets everyone hyped.”

A few days later, Sporting News carried a piece about the incident. Jacob Comenker, the author, included a tutorial on how to perform the swag surf.

The dance involves the performer leaping to the right and left in unison with the beat of the song, alternating between smooth and forceful movements. This keeps happening all throughout the song.

Depending on the type of dance, one can either complement the swaying motion being performed with the lower body with their arms or wrap them around the other dancers, which is common, especially at sporting events.

As everyone dancing moves back and forth, the effect of the dance is to create a wave-like motion within the crowd.

The Eagles star’s Bill vs. Chiefs experience

For the Eagles center, the day got off to a perfect start. He immediately went to enjoy himself with the Chiefs’ rival team at the Bills Mafia tailgate. He did not hop over and smash a table, but he did smash a few beers with the supporters. In his New Heights podcast, he frequently discusses how much he enjoys the energy and supporters of Highmark Stadium. For him, then, this was undoubtedly a huge dream realized. Beyond that, he cheered with some of the Bills supporters and drank from a bowling ball.

After that, he would approach their box to cheer on the Chiefs’ tight end during the game. The Eagles center was still photographed enjoying a beer in the background. He spent some time with his family and had a conversation with Taylor Swift. Taking pictures with the children completed the fun time that the older Kelce was having. Thanks to the fantastic Eagles, one fortunate girl was also able to meet Swift and present her sign to her.

With Bills Mafia, Jason Kelce certainly lived up to the hype.
