Kurt Warner is familiar with what it’s like to lose the last say in a legacy.
Arizona Kurt Warner, a former quarterback for the Arizona Cardinals, has experienced both winning and losing some of the biggest games in professional football.
Warner experienced setbacks as frequently as achievements, whether with the Cardinals or the St. Louis Rams; however, it’s difficult to be dissatisfied with three Super Bowl appearances and one ring to brag about.
After his playing career ended, Warner moved into analysis, analyzing the performance of the current quarterbacks this season, particularly on social media.
Warner, who usually tweets about general opinion and film analysis, chose this week to take the field in support of Josh Allen, the quarterback for the Buffalo Bills, who is regarded as one of the best in the league but hasn’t made it to a Super Bowl in his career as a starter:
“This whole @JoshAllenQB controversy has been on my mind a lot. I know that winning matters, but so does context.” Warner stated on X and Twitter.
Here’s a little: I played in three SBs, and in each one, I left the field with the lead or tied the score following our most recent meaningful offensive drive. My SB record stands at 1-2. Imagine that I won all those games without needing to throw a single pass, going 2-0-1 (obviously we would have played overtime and could have been 3-0)… How might people perceive my career differently? without altering one’s behavior!
“While rarely given much thought, context is important. however it can’t always be that simple because he wasn’t good enough to prevail! Although many would argue Josh Allen hasn’t been good enough, he has been excellent in the playoffs, frequently needing no additional effort to win or tie those games (and frequently being the best quarterback of the modern era). Perhaps not, but context is important.”
This came after a tweet from a few days earlier:
“Why can’t we just say that the opponent was simply better, and that’s why #JoshAllen didn’t win the game (I know it’s a team, but there’s so much riding on the quarterback)? Clearly… Sometimes you have to play almost perfectly to win those games, and that’s almost impossible,” Warner remarked.
Warner led the Cardinals almost the entire way in 2010, but the Pittsburgh Steelers had other ideas. Since then, the Cardinals have not returned to the Super Bowl.
Despite having homefield advantage, Buffalo lost to the Kansas City Chiefs in the postseason this past weekend once more.
