When the San Francisco 49ers eventually ascended the playoff mountain to the Super Bowl, they were met with a well-known opponent.
In as short a time as possible, the Niners’ second opportunity to win a Super Bowl against the Kansas City Chiefs will be an uncommon rematch of the championship game.
Nick Bosa, a defensive end for the 49ers, described his second chance to defeat Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs in the previous five seasons as “perfect.”
“They are the best quarterback, coach, and organization there is. They were also struggling, didn’t look good this year, and are currently playing their best ball. Thus, it will present a significant challenge.
Just eight Super Bowl rematches have occurred in the 57 previous games, and only three of those occurred in the five years prior to this one. The teams that prevailed in the initial encounter emerged victorious from those three rematches.
More than a dozen players, including stars from both teams, are expected to play in this matchup after participating in the Kansas City 31-20 victory in Miami at the end of the 2019 campaign.
Under Mahomes’ and coach Andy Reid’s leadership, the Chiefs overcame a 10-point deficit in the fourth quarter to win that game and secure their first of two Super Bowl titles. Kansas City, who also suffered a defeat, will be the third team in four out of five seasons to make it to the championship game.

Two weeks ago, an article on ESPN.com featured an on-the-record statement from 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy stating that the team’s offseason goal was to sign Tom Brady to be the starting quarterback in 2023, according to coach Kyle Shanahan. Purdy and Shanahan had given several press conferences, but no one had inquired about Purdy’s remarks since.
Someone was finally questioned about it. Brady was that individual.
Pat McAfee questioned Brady about the Purdy story about the 49ers wanting Brady during a Tuesday media tour about the merger of TB12 with Nobull.
Brady did not state clearly that he was wanted by the 49ers.
According to 49ersWebZone.com, Brady stated, “In this last season, there’s a lot of different things that people would suggest, but I kind of just kept my mind focused on where I wanted to go.” “Once more, it was a great year for me to observe, absorb knowledge, and get ready to work in the Fox booth next year.”
Brady left a lot of options open last year regarding a possible return to the NFL in 2023, as Chris Simms stated on PFT Live. In the end, he chose not to participate.
After 20 years with the Patriots, Brady became a free agent and chose the 49ers as his first option three years prior. The 49ers said, “No thanks,” at that point.
