‘Oh my goodness’ – Pundit View: Tottenham wonder set for Ange call after ‘Incredible’ footage

Tottenham signing Lucas Bergvall could be set for a first-team role under Ange Postecoglou, after producing a moment of brilliance for Djurgården, according to Alan Hutton.

The wide forward, who is 18 years old, was signed by Spurs during the January transfer window after they defeated Barcelona to his signature. He will report to Ange Postecoglou’s squad for the preseason.

Although Bergvall is already a full international, he made an impression at the club level, helping Djurgården defeat Nordic United 5-0 and scoring twice, one of which had him carrying the ball from within his own half and finishing in the bottom corner.

Despite being in awe of the teenager’s “incredible” goal, Hutton believes Bergvall will have to work hard to earn a spot in Postecoglou’s starting lineup the next season, acknowledging that these few months may make or break his stay at Spurs.

“They do their scouting on all these players and they know the quality that they have,” Hutton told Tottenham News.

“There’s going to be a moment of brilliance, we see it with different people’s goals where you think ‘Oh my goodness, that’s just incredible’ and this is obviously the same.

“But I think it’s more about what is his all-round performance like. What has he been like after 10 or 15 games? Has he shown that quality that you need to hit the ground running?

“I’m not exactly sure how it’s going to work. Is he coming in for pre-season with a view to going away with Tottenham and then seeing where it takes him? I think that’s probably the view forward.

“Then Ange will make his mind up over whether he sees him in the squad this year or in future years. So it’s really down to him and how he progresses from now until the end of the season and then into pre-season.”

Will Lucas Bergvall start for Tottenham and Ange Postecoglou?

Tottenham and Postecoglou have a lot of exciting attacking alternatives right now, but Bergvall might make an early impact in North London the following season based on his performances for Djurgården this year.

Even though Timo Werner and Son Heung-Min have performed well for Spurs this season, their futures are still up in the air. Should one of these stars depart, it might provide the teenager a chance to fit into Postecoglou’s plans.

In related Tottenham news, Hutton hinted that Daniel Levy might be prepared to approve a £15 million deal of Joe Rodon this summer.
