The race for the fourth Champions League spot in the Premier League is shaping up to be a tight one, with Tottenham and Aston Villa locked in a fierce battle for the coveted position.
Liverpool, Manchester City, and Arsenal are pretty much assured of finishing in the top three, but the 4th spot is for the taking with Spurs and Aston Villa now the main contenders.
Currently, Aston Villa sit in 4th place with 55 points, while Tottenham trail closely behind in 5th place with 50 points but with a game in hand.
The fight for this remaining Champions League spot promises to be intense, with both teams determined to secure their spot in Europe’s elite competition.
Former Welsh footballer Robbie Savage has weighed in on the race, tipping Tottenham to come out on top despite their current position behind Villa.
Speaking on BBC 606, he said:
“It’s Spurs or Villa, please; Man United is eliminated.” I’ll still lean toward the Spurs, just a tiny bit.
If Ange Postecoglou’s team hopes to remain in the running for the last slot, they cannot afford any more mistakes.
They are now five points behind Villa, so their next game—which is against the Villains on Sunday—is quite important. With a victory, they would close the gap to only two points with one game remaining.
However, it won’t be an easy road to qualify for the Champions League. They still have a difficult schedule ahead of them, which includes games against Manchester City, Arsenal, Newcastle, and Liverpool.
