Eberechi Eze and his entourage had a box to themselves during Crystal Palace’s defeat to Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend amid claims that Spurs are interested in the attacking midfielder.
If Ange Postecoglou was already a fan of Eberechi Eze, it seems likely that his performance on Saturday would have made his mind up about Tottenham making a move for the Palace star in the summer transfer window.
Eze scored a brilliant free-kick to put the Eagles ahead in the game Tottenham would go on to win 3-1. And it seemed a big boost for Spurs when Oliver Glasner took Eze off shortly after his goal.
Entourage of Eberechi Eze had box at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
Reports in the build-up to the game suggested that Tottenham really want to sign Eze. And fans would have seen clips after the game of Eze chatting with the Spurs players following the full-time whistle. Son was full of praise for Eze’s goal.
Interestingly, it appears that those connected with the 25-year-old were able to watch the game in some style.
Speaking on The Tottenham Way podcast, The Times journalist Tom Allnutt suggested that the England international’s family had a box to themselves at the game. As The Sun journalist Tom Barclay then elucidated, it is largely related to the fact that CAA Base represents Eze.
“I found it intriguing that Eze and his group at Tottenham essentially got a whole box to themselves. I’m not sure if having a full entourage of friends, family, and perhaps a few agents is typical for an opposition player. I am aware that Eze is a member of Base, a team closely associated with the Spurs. However, I couldn’t help but wonder if there was some flirting going on. I wonder whether they made sure Eze and his group had a great time at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium? I’m not sure, maybe I’m just thinking about it,” Allnutt remarked.
“You touched on it there. He is a Base client. That box belongs to Base I think. So that was part of the reason. Obviously, they’ve got a lot of clients at Tottenham, including the manager. That doesn’t necessarily mean that the dots connect quite like that. Just because they have other players and the manager that he’ll end up at Spurs. But as I said on the reaction pod, I think he’d be a great signing,” Barclay replied.
A perfect target
Eze got a box to himself, and it would seem that there’s a very good reason for it. However, a lot of Tottenham supporters will be hopeful that the club was attempting to make an impression with this notion.
Selhurst Park has been the scene of Eze’s injury issues. But there’s no denying that he’s a phenomenal talent who can steal the show in nearly every Premier League match.
Eze won’t be allowed to leave Crystal Palace unless they receive at least £50 million. However, it is obvious that Tottenham’s close ties to CAA Base will only be advantageous should they choose to move in the summer.
