‘He’s trained all week’: Postecoglou suggests he could start ‘unbelievable’ 21-year-old for Spurs tomorrow

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has provided some good news regarding Pape Matar Sarr’s fitness.

The Spurs boss, speaking to football.london on Friday, revealed that the 21-year-old is “all good” ahead of Sunday’s Aston Villa clash.

Sarr has been nursing a back problem since returning from Africa Cup of Nations duty in February.

The Tottenham midfielder started against Brighton and Wolves, but dropped to the bench in the win over Crystal Palace last time out.

Postecoglou went with a midfield pairing of Yves Bissouma and Rodrigo Bentancur as Spurs ran out 3-1 winners over the Eagles.

Sarr came on in the 82nd minute, replacing James Maddison as Tottenham looked to consolidate their lead, something they did successfully.

However, the midfielder did appear to be in discomfort after the game, with football.london claiming that Postecoglou even went to check on him after the win.

Tottenham midfielder Pape Matar Sarr ‘fine’ ahead of Aston Villa clash

Now, ahead of Tottenham’s trip to Aston Villa, the Spurs boss said Sarr is feeling much better, seemingly hinting he could return to the starting XI.

“He’s fine,” said Postecoglou. “He’s okay. He’s been carrying a bit of back niggle but this week has been better to be fair.

“Last week I think not starting probably helped him a bit. He’s all good, he’s trained all week.”

It’s great to hear Postecoglou claiming Sarr is better and seemingly available for Tottenham’s big game against Villa.

He is very much the glue in Spurs’ midfield, boasting many top attributes such as work-rate, defensive awareness, ball carrying and off-the-ball work.

Already so crucial at just 21 years of age, it’ll be exciting to see how the truly ‘unbelievable‘ talent continues to develop in the coming years.
