Former Washington Commanders pass rusher Chase Young is a hot name on the free agent market. After Young now has the chance to enter the free agent market for the first time in his career after being moved to the San Francisco 49ers on the NFL Trade Deadline. The former Defensive Rookie of the Year may be available to another NFC West team, according to Kyle Andrews of Pro Football Network. The Seattle Seahawks are Young’s landing location, according to Andrews.

According to Andrews, Young’s career can be revitalized by Mike Macdonald, potentially returning him to the same standing he held with the Commanders during his rookie campaign.

“It might not be over for Young in the NFC West. He could make the opposite move of former Seahawks Richard Sherman, the 49ers’ cornerback, and head to Seattle. Leonard Williams and Mario Edwards are two defensive lineman available for unrestricted free agency, and Joshua Onujiogu is an exclusive rights free agent for Seattle.

In 2023, Edwards recorded 21 tackles (15 solo) and two sacks, compared to 41 tackles (24 solo) by Williams. The Seahawks’ cap space is $41,610,9909. Young might be a better match, but he might provide a pass rush more strength, which is an important attribute.

Macdonald could improve the already excellent Seahawks defense if he can get Young to perform as well as he did against the Commanders before to hurting his ACL.

Young Should Be Sought After on the Market

With the Seattle Seahawks and other teams interested in Young, he should find a spot he can succeed in. The Seahawks, who historically have had one of the best defenses in football, could be a great spot for him.

The Seahawks, similar to the Washington Commanders, might be a few years away from truly competing for a Super Bowl. Seattle has shown promise at times and has enough to be a playoff team, but it’s not a guarantee.

For the Baltimore Ravens, Macdonald assembled a strong defense that aided Jadeveon Clowney. Despite the fact that Clowney and Young are distinct players, their professional paths are similar.

Young might have the same career turnaround with the Seahawks as Clowney had with the Ravens.

This may not be the ideal position for Young to win. But after a dismal stint with the 49ers and an inability to maintain his health with the Commanders, accepting a one-year prove-it deal with a top defense may restore his reputation to its previous level.

Spotrac projects that Young will agree to a $13 million, one-year contract.

Commanders and Seahawks Could Be in the Market for Similar Players

The Washington Commanders will be on the search for pass rushers this offseason. After trading Young There’s a need for defensive guys that can pressure the quarterback, as Montez Sweat did last season.

The Seattle Seahawks may be bidding for the same players since they have similar needs.

The Commanders are fortunate to have almost $90 million in cap space. The Seahawks should locate the players they need as well, as they have over $40 million in cap room.
