The 2023-24 Golden State Warriors have faced tough stretches during Chris Paul and Stephen Curry’s injury woes. First, Paul was sidelined from a broken hand, and now, Curry is out with an ankle sprain. Thankfully, Paul is healthy again, and the Warriors have big plans for him.

While Curry is sidelined, Anthony Slater of The Athletic reports that the Warriors want to start Paul at point guard. In addition, Steve Kerr stated that the Warriors have a strategy that will maximize Paul’s potential.

Kerr stated, “We’ll rely on specific actions that Chris likes to run.” The highly sought-after veteran backup guard is maybe the best option to replace Curry.

Although Paul’s first season with the Warriors has not gone as planned, his production and experience are still very useful. The Phoenix Suns were led to the NBA Finals in 2021 by the former All-NBA star.

Smith assessed that Tatum’s struggles against big-time teams like Denver are eerily similar to the NBA Finals loss to the Golden State Warriors in 2022. That year, other stars like Jaylen Brown had to step up when Tatum could not find his usual form. Smith believes those results from elite matchups can play into MVP voting this season.

“It reminds folks of the kind of performance we saw in the NBA Finals,” Smith added. “You’re wondering what you’re going to do when you go up against the big teams in the West. You’re 0-2 against Denver this year. You’re 0-1 against (the Oklahoma City Thunder). You’re 1-1 against the Minnesota Timberwolves. I’m looking at it from that perspective. That is not a good situation for a guy vying for his first league MVP.”
