Hiring Arthur Smith to be their next offensive coordinator could do wonders for this team.
That’s why former NFL player Louis Riddick believes it was actually their biggest offseason move.
Talking on ESPN’s Get Up, he argued that Smith being there with Russell Wilson will allow the Steelers to get the best out of their quarterbacks, as both Wilson and Kenny Pickett will start from scratch and should have an open competition for the job.
“I don’t need you to cook, Russ! That’s not what we need you to do. We need you to play on time,” Riddick said.
Even so, with Wilson most likely getting the nod over the ever-struggling Pickett, Riddick thinks that Smith’s offense will allow him to be efficient.
He thinks the Steelers don’t need or even want Russ to ‘cook’ or do everything on his own; they just need him to throw the football on time, take care of the ball, and be another part of the offense.
