And there could be more in the coming days.

Five Tottenham Hotspur players (at the time of this article’s posting) have been called up to represent their countries in the upcoming international break, which will begin after this weekend’s round of Premier League matches.

James Maddison is the only Spurs player to be called up to represent England — he will be in the squad in two friendly matches against Brazil and Belgium

    Here we go then.

    Your #ThreeLions for March camp!

    — England (@England) March 14, 2024

I rarely have strong takes about the England squad whenever they’re released and I don’t have particularly strong takes about this one either — except to openly wonder how Jordan Henderson continues to get match minutes.

Numerous other Tottenham players were called up. Here’s a full list, with the caveat that some teams have yet to release their squad information — this list could also potentially include players like Pedro Porro, Rodrigo Bentancur, Destiny Udogie, Guglielmo Vicario, Pape Matar Sarr, Yves Bissouma, and Radu Dragusin.

    England (1) – James Maddison

Wales (3) – Brennan Johnson, Ben Davies, Joe Rodon

    Denmark (1) – Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg

    Sweden (1) – Dejan Kulusevski

    Korea (1) – Son Heung-Min

Argentina (2) – Cristian Romero, Giovani Lo Celso

    Brazil (1) – Richarlison

‘Good mentality’… Gareth Southgate says £75m Tottenham target is so composed on the ball’

Jarrad Branthwaite has been called-up to the England squad by Gareth Southgate for the first time with the Everton ace impressing this season – and Southgate praised the Tottenham transfer target.

After a year at PSV on loan last term, in which he scored four goals in 36 games, the 21-year-old is now first choice under Sean Dyche. He’s played 31 times, missing one of Everton’s last 26 league games.

Gary Lineker, who was a £75 million target for both Tottenham and Arsenal before the summer transfer season, replied to the announcement that he will be playing in friendlies against Brazil and Belgium.

Speaking right away following the announcement that Bradthwaite had been added to the squad for the games in March, Southgate highlighted the qualities of the Spurs target that had pleased him, particularly his ball control.

“He’s good with the ball, good composure, good mentality. He’s left-footed, and we don’t have many left-footed defenders. He’s in on merit and we’re looking forward to working with him,” Southgate said.

It is well deserved, and perhaps the start of Southgate replacing Harry Maguire. The Manchester United man has always played on the left of central defence under Southgate – but Branthwaite could come in.

Similar to Maguire in terms of aerial ability and stature, he is also excellent on the ball and left-footed. He might not be the finished article yet, but he is a sensational talent – hence the interest from Spurs in him.

Arsenal, too. If Spurs or Arsenal can get a deal done for Branthwaite this summer, he would be a superb addition. The inclusion from Southgate is just the next step in what promises to be a successful career.
