BBC pundit not impressed with £165k-a-week Spurs player in loss to Fulham

Tottenham Hotspur fell to a comprehensive 3-0 defeat at the hands of Fulham in Saturday’s Premier League encounter in west London.

Spurs were hoping to climb into the top four come 7:30pm and potentially stay there during the international break.

Instead, Ange Postecoglou has been left to rue a shock defeat in which most of his players were seriously disappointing.

For instance, Timo Werner missed a number of chances during the game, including one in the second half that seemed easier to score.

In the 69th minute, Brennan Johnson flashed a superb ball across the face of goal on a silver platter for the £165,000-a-week forward.

However, Werner inexplicably skewed wide from point-blank range, which pretty much summed up Tottenham’s bad day.

BBC Sport pundit Matt Jarvis said on Radio 5 Live: “Tottenham have had two big, big opportunities right there. Werner should be scoring.”

Meanwhile, Alan Smith of Sky Sports said: “Werner has got to expect it coming his way but he doesn’t.”

Prior to Werner’s miss, Johnson also failed to put away a superb opportunity from a Son Heung-min delivery.

All in all, about as bad a day as it can get for Tottenham. And as was the case after the loss to Wolves, Spurs now have a two-week wait to try and put things right.

With the international break set to bring a halt to domestic proceedings until the end of the month, Tottenham aren’t in action now until Saturday 30 March, when they host Luton Town in north London.
