‘They shouldn’t be starting’: Gabriel Agbonlahor says there’s two Tottenham players Postecoglou needs to bench

Gabriel Agbonlahor has now pointed out two Tottenham Hotspur players he believes Ange Postecoglou needs to drop to the bench.

Postecoglou and his side were well beaten at Fulham on Saturday, a result that has left a very sour taste heading into the international break.

Spurs now have to wait until they host Luton Town on March 30th in order to rectify that display, and perhaps the international break will prove to be a well-needed reset.

Naturally, Tottenham was ecstatic following their thrilling victory over Aston Villa on the road the previous week, but it’s astonishing how devastating a single negative outcome can be.

Postecoglou, for all his apparent calmness, always appeared convinced that much work remained, even in spite of his accomplishments.

Having said that, Gabriel Agbonlahor has started to highlight some of the adjustments he believes Postecoglou should make at Tottenham going forward.

The analyst said on talkSPORT this morning that Spurs needed to get a striker this summer, but he was still optimistic about the team finishing in the top five this year.

Whilst discussing Tottenham’s need for a striker, the pundit also claimed that both Brennan Johnson and Timo Werner shouldn’t be starting in the Premier League.

He explained: “Spurs will make top five this season, could be in the Champions League and then in the summer they need to get some better players in.

“They need a top number nine, Son on the left, Kulusevski on the right. Werner and Johnson coming off the bench. They shouldn’t be starting games for Spurs in the Premier League, for me.”

Of course, right now Son Heung-min is playing centrally in the absence of Richarlison, who was back on the bench at Fulham.

But with the Brazilian fully fit after the international break perhaps Agbonlahor will get his wish, with Postecoglou playing Richarlison as his number nine with the other Tottenham pair mentioned either side.

Taking everything into account, Agbonlahor’s remarks definitely seem harsh, especially to Johnson.

Werner’s track record in the Premier League is tainted by his propensity for taking unnecessary risks.

Johnson, nevertheless, continues to appear like a very promising asset. Michah Richards believes Johnson is prepared to have an impact on games.

Additionally, Postecoglou won’t be about to put Johnson in his place, in his opinion, given that we already discussed his unwillingness to back down.
