Women’s Tennis Association star Aryna Sabalenka broke her silence about the death of her former boyfriend, ex-NHL player Konstantin Koltsov, one day after the news was announced.

The Belarusian tennis star posted a message to her Instagram story on Wednesday to express her sorrow during this time.

“Konstantin’s death is an unthinkable tragedy, and while we were no longer together, my heart is broken,” Written by Sabalenka. “During this trying time, please respect the privacy of his family and me.”

Up until she made this declaration, it was believed that Sabalenka and Koltsov were still dating at the time of his passing.

According to Belarusian media site Telegraf, Koltsov’s death was first attributed to a “detached blood clot.” However, the Miami-Dade Police Department later confirmed on Tuesday that they are looking into Koltsov’s death as an apparent suicide.

Sabalenka intends to compete in the WTA Miami Open this coming week, although she is not anticipated to speak with the media at the competition. On Friday, March 22, she will play Paula Badosa in her opening match.
