Analyst Notes ‘Intriguing’ Draft Option For Steelers At WR

The Pittsburgh Steelers could be a dark horse team in the AFC next season with the addition of future Hall of Fame quarterback Russell Wilson, partly because of the fact that they already possessed decent talent elsewhere.

However, if they are to challenge for their seventh Super Bowl championship any time soon, they will need to bring in a few more reinforcements, which could include another threat at wide receiver.

Brooke Pryor tweeted that Devontez Walker from the University of North Carolina could be a draft option for Pittsburgh.

Walker transferred from Kent State University to UNC prior to last season, and he’s coming off a year in which he posted 699 receiving yards and seven touchdowns in eight games.

He reportedly ran the 40-yard dash in an impressive 4.36 seconds, and in addition to a pair of good hands, he is thought to have some potent ability to add yards after the catch.

Walker has been projected to go anywhere from late in the first round to the fourth round of next month’s NFL draft.

The Steelers currently have one real threat at wideout in George Pickens, who caught 63 passes for 1,140 yards and five touchdowns in 2023.

Ever since Mike Tomlin took over as Pittsburgh’s head coach for the 2007 season, the team hasn’t had a losing record, but the challenge for it now is to advance in the playoffs, something it hasn’t done since the 2016 campaign.
