Promotion Hopes in Balance: As Misfiring Player Costs Leicester Loss

Championship strugglers Plymouth Argyle secured a crucial 1-0 victory thanks to a fantastic effort from Mustapha Bundu midway through the first half, while leaders Leicester suffered another setback to their ambitions of promotion.

With Enzo Maresca’s team suffering its second away loss in four days after losing 1-0 at Millwall on Tuesday, there is still one point separating the top three teams.

The game’s pivotal moment arrived on minute twenty. Bundu cleverly cut inside Wout Faes, grabbed Adam Forshaw’s pass that was wide, and struck the far corner.

“We’ve seen in training sometimes it goes into the stand, into the next field, but occasionally it’s gone in,” Plymouth director of football Neil Dewsnip said to Sky Sports. It was his night tonight, and he scored a tremendous goal.”

After the break, Patson Daka, who hasn’t scored in nine games, wasted Leicester’s best opportunity when he pulled Abdul Fatawu’s cross over. Julio Pleguezuelo was also lucky not to give up a penalty when he tangled with Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall inside the area.

In injury time in the second half, Argyle’s goalkeeper Michael Cooper sprinted out to smother substitute Jamie Vardy’s feet, but Plymouth held on to record their first home victory since January and three crucial points in their survival attempt.

As a result, they are now five points clear of the relegation zone and in 16th place with 48 points. Despite having played the same amount of games as its rivals Leeds United and Ipswich Town, who can both pass the Foxes when they play over the weekend, Leicester is still atop the Championship standings.
