He could be dropped: Kudus and Moyes in battle of Words

Kudus tells Moyes he wants to play in completely different position

Mohammed Kudus has been absolutely sensational for West Ham United since David Moyes brought him to the club in the summer of 2023.

A simply unbelievable footballer who is unplayable on his day, Mohammed Kudus has already established himself as a vital player for West Ham boss David Moyes.

This season, the 23-year-old has already lit up the London Stadium multiple times.

Kudus recently scored an absolutely amazing goal against Freiburg. When his colleague Vladimir Coufal witnessed the Ghanaian international go the whole length of the field before scoring, he said he “couldn’t believe his eyes.”

Kudus’s fellow colleague Aaron Cresswell implied that the left-footed superstar-in-the-making would just get better and better in the interim.

Eight months ago, the former Ajax player signed a contract with the Hammers for an estimated £38 million (Sky Sports).

In 38 games for West Ham thus far, he has amassed an extraordinarily remarkable 13 goals and four assists (Transfermarkt).

For us this year, Kudus has been a true bright spark. Could he improve farther, though? It appears from his most recent remarks that he most certainly could.

Mohammed Kudus tells David Moyes he wants to play in different position

The former Ajax star has left his manager in no doubt whatsoever where he should be playing for West Ham.

Kudus sat down for a wide-ranging interview with Sky Sports about all things football.

When asked what his best position is, the Ghanaian responded by saying:

“Like a number 10, attacking midfielder. That’s where I’ve played all my years since I was a kid. Recently, I’ve played on the wings or even as a striker sometimes but I’ve always been a midfielder.”

The ideal situation would be for Moyes to sign an excellent center-forward, such as Ivan Toney, and retain Lucas Paqueta through the summer.

Then, Kudus may start at number 10, with Jarrod Bowen in his ideal position wide on the right.

I agree with the Ghanaian that the number 10 position is his ideal one, but I feel like he is wasted on the left wing despite his clear advantages when playing on the other side.

We might be in serious danger from his amazing footwork and deft ball control in and around the opposition’s penalty area.

Will Moyes, however, pay attention to Kudus and put him in his own, admittedly ideal position? It will have to wait and see, but if he doesn’t, this won’t be the first time that the Scot’s obstinacy has prevented us from becoming a better team!

One good example of this is how Pablo Fornals was forced into a left-wing role for the most of Moyes’s stint. Hopefully, Kudus doesn’t wind up following the Spaniard’s path.
