Sad News: Steelers Nation player contract has just been terminated, he’s to leave immediately

After trading Diontae Johnson to the Panthers earlier in the summer, the Steelers still have a severe need at wide receiver.

Because of this, there have been multiple trade speculations involving Pittsburgh involving veteran wide receivers, which is why the organization needs to keep an eye on the most recent holdout.

Broncos wide receiver Courtland Sutton did not show up for voluntary workouts on Monday in an attempt to negotiate a new contract, according to NFL Network source Tom Pelissero. For the final two years of his contract, Sutton’s guaranteed amount is a mere $2 million.

Denver appears to be starting a rebuild, so if the team is unable to give Sutton what he wants, they may try to trade him.

The Steelers ought to call the Broncos if that’s the case. The bond between Sutton and rookie quarterback Russell Wilson is undeniable.

The pair, who had spent the previous two seasons playing together in Denver, demonstrated their bond in 2023 when they combined for ten touchdowns.

The 28-year-old would probably not cost more than a third-round selection. The finances would be the largest obstacle in a possible trade.

Sutton wants a new contract that may increase his annual compensation because he has a $17 million cap hit in 2024. Pittsburgh might decide not to make the move for that reason alone, but general manager Omar Khan has a track record of manipulating the salary cap.

According to reports, the former second-round pick had ankle surgery in the summer, but “it doesn’t seem like it’s cause for significant concern.”

Entering his eighth season in the NFL, Sutton is looking for stability, and if the Broncos go with Jarrett Stidham or another quarterback in 2024, his output might suffer.

Sutton’s best chance appears to be to rejoin Wilson on the Steelers, who are prepared to challenge for a Super Bowl. For now, the ball is in Denver’s hands.
