New York Giants president, CEO and co-owner John Mara reportedly isn’t interested in firing head coach Brian Daboll due in part to the team’s recent history of short coaching tenures, according to Fox Sports’ Ralph Vacchiano.

“He’s legitimately embarrassed by how much turnover there’s been,” an anonymous team source said, per Vacchiano.

Before Daboll was hired ahead of the 2022 season, no other head coach lasted more than two years with the team since longtime coach Tom Coughlin departed after New York’s 2015 campaign.

There wasn’t much talk surrounding Daboll’s job security following his first year with the team, as the Giants earned a playoff spot with a 9-7-1 record in 2022. New York also defeated the Minnesota Vikings in the wild-card round, marking the team’s first playoff victory since a win over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl 46.

The Giants took a step back in 2023, finishing with a record of just 6-11. Quarterback Daniel Jones started six games before a torn ACL in Week 9 ended his season. New York went 1-5 in his starts.

Daboll’s frustration was often visible on the sidelines throughout the Giants’ disappointing 2023 campaign. While Mara admitted that he wished the head coach would “tone it down,” he commended his ability to remain calm and collected behind the scenes.

“There are times where I wish he would tone it down a little bit,” Mara said, via Vacchiano. “But I’m also in the team meetings, and I see how he acts around people and his coaches in the office. He always maintains his cool there. Does he get excitable during the games sometimes? Yeah. So do I. I don’t think it’s a major issue.”

Although Daboll doesn’t appear to be on the hot seat entering the 2024 season, another losing year may bring up more questions regarding his long-term future with the team.
