New York Yankees’ Rookie Homers Again, Does Something Organization Hasn’t Had Happen Since 2019
New York Yankees rookie Anthony Volpe homered on Wednesday in a loss to the Orioles. In doing so, he did something the organization hasn’t had happen since 2019.
The New York Yankees lost on Wednesday to the Baltimore Orioles, 6-3.
Despite the loss, the team continued to see improvement from rookie shortstop Anthony Volpe, who went 1-for-3 with a homer, an RBI and two runs scored.
For Volpe, it was his 12th home run of the season and raised his batting average to a respectable .223. After spending much of the year in the .100s, it’s a noticeable improvement.

The 12 home runs also gave him an impact that the Yanks haven’t had from a rookie since 2019.

Anthony Volpe’s 12 HRs are the most by a #Yankees rookie since 2019, when Mike Tauchman hit 13 HRs and Mike Ford hit 12.

That’s no great Yankees history or anything, but it shows just how difficult it is to crack the lineup for the Yankees as a rookie. It doesn’t happen often and when it does, it’s difficult to succeed in New York, but Volpe is finding his footing.
In addition to the .223 average and 12 homers, he’s also got 31 RBIs and has stolen 16 bases.
After the loss, the Yankees are 48-39 and eight games back in the American League East. They are just three games back of the Orioles now for second place in the division. With regards to the wild card, the Yankees are in the final wild card spot, 1.5 games up on the Blue Jays.
The Yankees and Orioles will finish out their series on Thursday at 7:05 p.m. ET.
