Tottenham Hotspur star vents on social media with damning 17-word message
James Maddison, a star for Tottenham Hotspur, vented his annoyance on social media on Friday night about the team’s recent antics following three straight losses.
With four games remaining, Manchester United, Newcastle United, and Chelsea have cut the distance on Ange Postecoglou’s team as the competition for European football heats up. Spurs will play their next three games against Manchester City and Liverpool in an attempt to turn things around.
Tottenham Hotspur has given up nine goals in their previous three Premier League losses, including Thursday night’s 2-0 setback to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, which came after the team lost 3-2 to Arsenal in the north London derby and 4-0 to Newcastle United at St James’ Park.
Posting a series of images from the meeting with Mauricio Pochettino’s men on his Instagram story, Maddison wrote: “Disappointed with our performances of late. Working hard to put it right. That’s all we can do.”
The England international has only scored once in 2024 and has not registered a goal or an assist in his last seven league games for his team. For the first time since his injury return in January, Maddison did not start against Chelsea, starting instead on the bench.
Spurs’ first opportunity to get back on track is this Sunday afternoon when they go to Anfield. The Reds’ recent performance is encouraging for Postecoglou’s team, since a draw against West Ham and a loss to Everton seem to have ended their title ambitions.
The Australian stated to Chelsea after the loss, “It’s not good enough and I have to take responsibility for that; it’s on me.” I need to examine myself to find where I can make a bigger difference.
The message isn’t being understood when we perform as well as we did in the first half.
We weren’t very good at playing, mate. That is my responsibility. Though that’s just me, I believed their first goal should have been a foul. Nothing good came out of the game for us.”
