How much does the University of Michigan want to retain the services of head coach Jim Harbaugh? The same exact amount it wants an assurance that he won’t jump from the college program to the NFL …
With that amount coming in at a whopping $125 million.
NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport is reporting on Sunday morning that Michigan – the No. 1-ranked program in college football and lined up to win a national title – has made Harbaugh a gigantic offer to keep him in Ann Arbor.
The deal: A 10-year, $125 million contract proposal.

The NFL-related caveat? “Please don’t leave us,” basically.
“Sources say Harbaugh, whose current deal runs through 2026, received an offer from Michigan for a 10-year, $125-million contract extension that would make him one of the highest-paid coaches in college football,” Rapoport writes. “Yet there is a caveat, and it’s NFL-related.
“If he signed the deal — which he has not yet done — Harbaugh would agree not to entertain or accept an NFL job for the 2024 season.”

This strikes us as odd; The school would be signing this contract with Harbaugh in the coming days … as the calendar turns to 2024 … and wants assurances that he wouldn’t leave the team immediately to go coach in the NFL in the 2024 season?
If he was to do that, what would be the point of the contract?
NFL teams including the Chargers and Bears have been mentioned as possible landing spots for the former San Francisco 49ers head coach, who is busy right now prepping for the College Football Playoff, where the Wolverines will take on Alabama on New Year’s Day.
Well, he’s busy at that. And, you know, other stuff as well, it seems.
