Tottenham transfer verdict amid Ryan Sessegnon exit update
Tottenham have made the right decision to let Ryan Sessegnon leave the club after an injury-plagued spell at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Paul Robinson has said.
According to Football London [20 May], despite the 24-year-old having a one-year extension option in his contract, Sessegnon will become a free agent at the end of the season.
Since arriving at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on a £25million move from Fulham in 2021, as per BBC Sport, the winger has played 57 times, with only two of those coming this season due to multiple injuries.
Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Robinson said: “For the player, it’s the right decision. He’s been really unfortunate with injuries, so his opportunities have been limited.
“He’s come in fits and starts, showing the quality that he has. But from a player’s point of view, he needs to find somewhere where he can play every week. He’s of an age now where it’s not potential now – he has to produce.
“His injury record hasn’t been great, he’s not going to get a look-in with this Tottenham side, with Brennan Johnson, Dejan Kulusevski, Timo Werner this year, and Richarlison. Regarding recruitment, they may look in those areas. But for me, it’s a situation where the club have invested a lot of money but it’s not worked.
“For him personally, it’s time to move on and start playing regular football and stay fit. With Ange trying to mould his own squad and get his own players in, it seems like a sensible move for both parties.”
