He deserves more: Pundits gives hints on Tottenham captain exits

Journalist suggests ‘world class’ player could leave Tottenham, it would not be a surprise

Tottenham Hotspur have to undergo some serious changes this summer.

Spurs, once again, finished outside of the top four, and their form towards the end of the season showed just how many changes are needed this summer.

Ange Postecoglou hasn’t pulled any punches in making it clear that he wants change at Tottenham, and speaking on KS1TV, Steve Kay has suggested that there could be a high-profile departure at Spurs.

Indeed, the journalist says that he wouldn’t be shocked if there were some big departures in the Premier League this summer, naming Heung-Min Son as a player who he thinks could go.

Son Heung-Min of Tottenham Hotspur during the Premier League match between Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal FC at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on April …

Heung-Min Son leaving Tottenham wouldn’t be surprising

Kay spoke about Son and a potential Spurs departure this summer.

“Yeah, don’t be surprised if you don’t see some big players go in this window. You know, Son, we’ve said about Salah leaning towards staying, but when there are players like Eze and Olise about, they are the future, Son and Salah aren’t the future anymore,” Kay said.

    Son isn’t getting younger

As much as it would hurt to see Son leave Spurs, there is a logic behind letting the attacker go.

Son turns 32 next month, and at that age, you’re getting towards the end of your career.

The South Korean is still a fantastic player, but he probably doesn’t have that long left at the top level.

If Tottenham can sell Son for a good price and replace him with a younger model, that would make good business sense.

Of course, letting Son go this summer wouldn’t be the best for the short-term, but with the way football clubs are run these days, the long-term is, more often than not, the primary focus.

The ‘world class’ attacker remains one of Spurs’ most important players, but this could be a situation to keep an eye on heading into the summer.
