Wolves winger Pedro Neto is on Tottenham Hotspur’s radar
According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Wolves winger Pedro Neto this summer.
Ange Postecoglou wants to use the summer transfer window to add quality players in an effort to build on a stellar debut campaign in north London. His goal is to break the club’s long trophy drought and advance to the Champions League in the 2024–2025 season.
Following their successful acquisition of Archie Gray from Leeds United, Tottenham is reportedly looking to bolster their assault by adding a new wide winger. Due to Dejan Kulusevski’s inconsistent play and Manor Solomon’s injury-plagued rookie season, Spurs are reportedly looking to add a new winger during this transfer window.
Wolves star Pedro Neto has emerged as a target for Ange Postecoglou’s side. Speaking on his transfer update live show, Fabrizio Romano confirmed on Playback that the Portugal international is admired by Spurs but remain hesitant to make a move due to his recurrent injury issues.
“Pedro Neto and Spurs, he is one of the names they have on the list,” Romano stated on Playback.
“Pedro Neto, for sure, the only doubt has always been on injuries, so that is the point to clarify on Pedro Neto, but he’s one of the players they appreciate.”
The majority of Europe’s top leagues have expressed praise for Neto’s achievements for Wolves in recent years. Gary O’Neil’s team ended 14th in the standings despite the Portuguese dasher’s three goals and eleven assists in 24 games across all competitions.
The 24-year-old’s skill and ability to win games on his own are undeniable, as we have seen numerous times in the Premier League. With his speed, flair, directness, and intensity, Neto can be a world-class player on his day and tear apart defenses, but his persistent injury issues are impeding his development. In 2021, Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, referred to him as a “great player.”
Despite the Portuguese wide player’s occasional displays of brilliance since joining Wolves from Lazio in 2019, he has only made 135 appearances overall in his five seasons at Molineux. It is insufficient for a guy who is now 24 years old and eager to become a more versatile attacker.
Neto has the necessary components in his game to succeed in Postecoglou’s system—high intensity, pressing, interchanging, creativity, and an off-the-ball work ethic—but his inconsistent injury history makes him a hazardous addition.
Having said that, if Postecoglou and Spurs want to recruit a top-tier winger this summer, they need to keep an eye out for other options on their list. It makes little sense to gamble on a gifted player who is prone to injuries.
