Bullet for My Valentine Drummer Jason Bowld: Why I Refused to Join Ghost in 2016

“They’re super nice guys,” the drummer says about the Ghost fold.

Bullet for My Valentine drummer Jason Bowld – who permanently joined the fold last year after performing with the band as a touring member for about a year – was asked at this year’s Graspop Metal Meeting about being offered to join Ghost back in 2016, to which he replied (transcribed by UG):

“At the time, I had a jam with guys in Ghost – they’re super nice guys. I’d just come off touring with Bullet for a year and a half and I was pretty burnt out – it was just the wrong time for me, really. I needed to rest up.

“And lo and behold – a month later, I got a call from Matt [Tuck] and here I am. Things were just meant to be like that.”

Can you explain why you chose Bullet over Ghost?

“Well, I’ve been playing with the guys back in 2010 as well; did an album [2012’s ‘Vultures ‘with Matt for a side project called AxeWound. I was friendly with him and really enjoyed touring with him as a session guy.

“It was just a really easy decision to make, it just came along at the right time. These things happen out of your control – it was just all meant to be, this easy transition, really.”
