Jack White’s reaction to Liverpool result vs Nottingham Forest says it all

The former White Stripes frontman Jack White was not impressed with what he saw from Liverpool as it slumped to a sobering defeat against Nottingham Forest at Anfield

Jack White was witness to Liverpool’s listless performance against Nottingham Forest – with the rock star appearing less than impressed with the Reds’ performance as he was spotted in the crowd.

Having won its opening three Premier League fixtures, the Merseysiders went into the international break as the early pace-setters alongside reigning champions Manchester City. However, that momentum came to a crashing halt as Arne Slot experienced defeat for the first time in his tenure as head coach.

The visitors took all three points following the 1-0 victory, which came courtesy of a 72nd-minute winner from Callum Hudson-Odoi. The strike stunned Anfield, with former White Stripes legend White among those pictured looking dejected following the former Chelsea man’s wondergoal.

The “Seven Nation Army” hitmaker was shown on the broadcast of the game on US streaming service Peacock appearing tense as he folded his arms during the final ten minutes of regulation time. Seeming disgruntled after what had been an underwhelming showing from Liverpool, his visit to Anfield came before he was due to play a show in the city.

Nottingham Forest 2-3 Chelsea: Nuno Espirito Santo reaction

The sight of White in the crowd did not escape the attention of Reddit users, with one user saying: “Never heard that he’s specifically a Liverpool supporter, but he does enjoy sports. He’s playing a pop up concert in Liverpool today, while a second said: “Remember seeing these two juxtaposing spectators tryna work out if there was something special about them.”

Another supporter seemed shocked to see White in attendance at the famous old stadium, saying: “Didn’t know he was a fan, pretty cool Guy, while a fourth could not resist making reference to the singer’s signature hit with his former band, saying: “A seven nation army couldn’t make us move yesterday.”

After Forest saw out its first win at Anfield since 1969, Reds boss Slot admitted that the loss did represent a blip – especially after such a convincing start to the season. On the significance of the result, the Dutchman remarked: “Not to the process, but it is a big setback.

“If you lose a home game it’s always a setback, especially if you face a team – we never know, maybe they will go all the way to fight for Champions League tickets – but normally this team is not ending up in the top 10, so if you lose a game against them that’s a big disappointment. Although, they were organised and structured really well today.”

Speaking about what he felt went wrong for his side, he continued: “The only thing we had influence on was ball possession because they played a lot of long balls, so if you then take the ball back you need to go past 11 players.

“We had a lot of ball possession but only managed to create three or four quite good chances, so that is by far not enough if you have so much ball possession. If you play so much in their half, we need to do much better. We lost the ball so many times in simple situations. That is, I think, the main story from the game: ball possession not good enough.”
