After.being subject to a R40 million bid in the previous window, Kaizer Chiefs are moving swiftly to renew the deal of a key player.
Kaizer Chiefs are looking to add and offload players during the current transfer window but that’s not all.
Chiefs are also believed to be looking to retain some of their key first team squad members a longer period.
This in the form of new contracts or contract extensions. One of those players is thought to be speedy attacker Ashley du Preez. The former Stellenbosch FC joined Chiefs three seasons ago and has not really set the scene alight. He has had some promising flashes however, which have been appreciated abroad as well. In the previous window there were rumours of Portuguese topflight side Vitoria SC making a R40 million bid for him.

In the end, the deal didn’t materialise and du Preez stayed put. Now according to Soccer-Laduma, Chiefs are now looking to protect his market value by offering him a new deal!
“It’s on the cards. But they have not received anything in writing as yet. But something will happen soon. All the involved parties are happy with what’s happening at the moment and that’s why they (Chiefs) have offered him (du Preez) another two years on his contract until June 2027. The club still believes in him despite a few bad games here and there. So I think by January all will have been settled from the way things are going on,” said one source.
Chiefs offer du Preez contract extension?
Another source claims Chiefs do not want to see du Preez run his contract down.
“I think the new deal would be signed before the January transfer window period closes so that he (du Preez) is not eligible as a free agent. They (Chiefs) can’t afford to lose their top striker like that, and after all, there is interest in him where they can make some money if they eventually sell him. So by all means, they will make sure they tie him down as soon as possible,” said the source.
