The Soweto giants continue being criticised for the calibre of players they have amid struggles to challenge for the Premier Soccer League title.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Kaizer Chiefs have been struggling to contest for the Premier Soccer League title and have 15 points fewer than log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.
Amakhosi coach Nasreddine Nabi has attributed their situation to having a squad comprised of players who don’t have the quality to play for Chiefs as he hints at going big in the transfer market.
Seemingly strung by his coach’s remarks, defender Given Msimango has hit back at Nabi.
WHAT MSIMANGO SAID
“I think, to be honest, that question is directed to him per se. As a player, I can only do what I’m employed to do for the club,” said Msimango when speaking to the media.
“The people that brought me into this club believe in me as a player and I believe in myself. So, I think any comments besides Given’s comments should be directed to the coach. He can maybe elaborate more on what he meant by that.
“I cannot speak for everyone. But self-confidence is nothing that I’ve never lacked as an individual,” added the former TS Galaxy captain.
“I know who I am, I know where I stand with my game. I know what I need to improve on. I’m not perfect, and I stand on that. I speak for Given Msimango right now.”

Nabi has already stated his player transfer priorities for this January window which is already live.
The Tunisian is keen on signing a forward to ease Amakhosi’s goal-scoring woes that have seen them scoring 14 goals in 10 league games.
There could also be a need to beef up their defence for a team that has conceded 13 league goals.
WHAT NEXT FOR CHIEFS?
The Soweto giants start 2025 on the road as they visit Cape Town City for Sunday’s fixture at Cape Town Stadium.
They come up against opponents who are equally struggling for consistency and are now under the tutelage of former Amakhosi coach Muhsin Ertugral.
