Treading Ange says three players are still a few weeks from returning

Amidst the positive update provided earlier, where Ange confirmed that Guglielmo Vicario, Destiny Udogie, and James Maddison are all set to be available for selection against Manchester United, there has also been an update that is quite a lot less positive on the injury front.

On Friday, Ange said: Micky, Cuti (Romero), and Dom – we’re looking at the next two or three weeks for them.” Furthermore, regarding van de Ven, Ange had this to say: “We’ve had a few people externally looking at him, and giving him some more guidance and information, added to our [medical] stuff, which he can do differently around, not so much the injury, but to help his body adapt to the extreme athlete he is.

You always want to protect your assets and he is a major asset for this club and to protect his long-term career for the sake of a couple of weeks is worth it.”

That last sentence is absolutely correct. Although it, unironically, may feel like it is not impossible, Spurs are not going to get relegated this season. They just aren’t.

As bad as they may be, it is isn’t going to happen.

So, the important, crucial thing is that we see van de Ven and Romero back for the start of the Europa League knockout stage campaign. That is the basket that all of the eggs need to be thrown into.

As well as Solanke too, no doubt.

Having those three back will be absolutely huge if Spurs are going to be in Bilbao at the end of May.

Totally understand the frustration within the fanbase at, in particular, van de Ven and Romero still being out – with there perhaps a bit less frustration at Solanke’s injury, with it being a much shorter time frame, and Mathys Tel being an option – that frustration is also shared by us, but from here on in, the sensible thing is to now just try and make sure they are back for the Europa League games.

Although you do not want to continue losing in the Premier League (good win against Brentford aside), it just simply is not important a competition for this season as the Europa League. That is the simple truth to it. Let’s just all pray that they will be back for then, and once they are back, stay fit and available for the remainder of the competition.
