    Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Proposes Constitutional Reforms Following Cartel Terrorist Designations Mexico President Claudia Sheinbaum said Thursday she will propose constitutional reforms aimed at protecting Mexico’s sovereignty after U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration designated six Mexican drug cartels as foreign terrorist organizations. The U.S. designations have stirred worry in Mexico that it could be a preliminary step toward U.S. military intervention on Mexican territory in pursuit of the cartels, something Mexico sharply rejects. “The Mexican people will not accept under any circumstances interventions, interference or any other act from abroad that could be harmful to the integrity, independence and sovereignty of the nation,” Sheinbaum said. On Thursday, the designation of eight Latin America-based criminal organizations was published in the U.S. Federal Register, carrying out a Jan. 20 executive order by Trump. The U.S. hopes the designation, something usually reserved for terrorist groups with political rather than economic objectives, will increase pressure on the groups. Sheinbaum said during her daily press briefing Thursday that Mexico also wouldn’t allow outside involvement in investigations or prosecutions without authorization and collaboration of the Mexican government. Former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, Sheinbaum’s predecessor, had already written into Mexican law limits to how foreign agents could operate in Mexico, limiting their independence and requiring that Mexican authorities be informed of their movements. Sheinbaum proposes enshrining those limits in the constitution. “What we want to make clear in the face of this designation is that we do not negotiate sovereignty,” Sheinbaum said. “This cannot be an opportunity for the United States to invade our sovereignty.” Her administration also proposed reforming the constitution to apply the most severe penalties available under law to foreigners involved in the building, smuggling and distribution of guns. Mexico has long demanded that the U.S. do more to prevent the flood of guns into Mexico from U.S. gun shops and manufacturers. Her Morena party and its allies hold majorities in both chambers of Congress and have been able to pass a number of other constitutional reforms. How can Mexicans accept thier corrupt government putting up even more barriers and blocking assistance to the long suffering citizens. If she cared about Mexicans she would be asking anyone to come lend a hand to help end this scourge. Is she not introspective enough to ask herself why are millions of my fellow citizens risking thier lives to flee this beautiful country and their families and way of life.     Damian McKenzie stays at full-back despite Chiefs boss’ contradictory claim while Highlanders join the dark side by copying Springboks tactic.

    All Blacks star Damian McKenzie in action for the Chiefs against the Blues and Springboks team in a huddle.

    The teams have been named for the second round of Super Rugby Pacific, including the huge clash between the Chiefs and Crusaders on Friday.

    Interestingly, the hosts have decided to keep Damian McKenzie at full-back despite Clayton McMillan’s claim after their victory over the Blues that he is the team’s first-choice fly-half.

    “He’s our guy, you know he’s our 10,” head coach McMillan said after their 25-14 victory over the Blues.

    “The other guys are talented and chasing him, but tonight Josh [Jacomb] got an opportunity and I thought he did extremely well.”

    McKenzie’s switch to 10 coincided with the Chiefs wrestling control of the encounter last weekend, but Jacomb will remain in the key decision-making position for their match with the Crusaders.

    The All Blacks star could well move there later in the game and also take that role later in the season, but for now he remains at 15.

    On Saturday, title holders the Blues, who suffered that aforementioned opening-round loss, head to Dunedin to take on the Highlanders.

    They will face a team that have joined the dark side by opting for a 6-2 split on the bench, copying the tactics which the Springboks made famous. That is despite regular criticism from New Zealand over South Africa’s forward-orientated approach.

    It has been used once at international level by the All Blacks – against the Boks in a 2023 Rugby World Cup warm-up – but the traditional 5-3 is generally preferred in New Zealand.
