    A return to Naturena?

Kaizer Chiefs are ready to raid Cape Town Spurs but this time it’s not for winger Asanele Velebayi. Here’s the latest.

    Chiefs target youth product Bhengu

According to SoccerLaduma, Kaizer Chiefs want to bring former player Lungelo Bhengu back to the club. The 24-year-old defender came through the ranks at Naturena but was deemed not good enough and released in 2019 to Maritzburg. Bhengu, a right-back, is seen as an upgrade on current options Reeve Frosler and Dillan Solomons. His arrival would also allow the club to shift Njabulo Blom back into his preferred central midfield role.

“The interest is there but now they have to consider the money that they will pay. You know he was in their development until 2019 when he left to join Maritzburg United. Actually, he was released and unfortunately they want him back now and it will cost them more money. From what I know, his price ranges between R5m to R10m but it’s subject to negotiations. You should remember he is only 24 years old and has a great future ahead of him. So let’s wait and see,” the SL source revealed.

“If this happens it won’t be for the first time. It happened with Zitha Kwinika as well as Mduduzi Mdantsane. Both of them are Chiefs development products but look at how much they paid for them. It’s about to happen again now with Lungelo Bhengu. Maybe this will be a lesson to them this time around,” the source concluded.

Chiefs have spent big on Mdantsane and Kwinika in the past

If Bhengu arrived, it wouldn’t be the first time Chiefs have splurged big cash on players they nurtured in their development structures before allowing them to leave. It’s estimated that Chiefs spent R15 million in collective transfer fees on Mduduzi Mdantsane and Zitha Kwinika, two players who spent periods in their youth development system.

Would you like to see Bhengu return to Chiefs?

    Kaizer Chiefs transfer

Kaizer Chiefs have already signed over 10 players this season but Nabi could bring more in the next transfer period.

Kaizer Chiefs are set to be once again more active during the next transfer period.

Amakhosi have signed a total of 10 players under Nasreddine Nabi this season. Despite spending over R50 million on the signings, Amakhosi have struggled for consistency this campaign, losing six league matches thus far.

Most of their new signings have done relatively well giving Nabi something to work with next season. With the transfer window closed, Kaizer Chiefs will need to use the next three months to assess their squad and see which players they can add.

This week, the club reportedly extended Edson Castillo’s stay, ending speculation of his client’s possible departure from Chiefs.

“I can confirm that Edson will stay for another season, he has renewed his contract with Chiefs and there is also an option to continue for another year,” said the player’s agent Mauricio Andrade.

Kaizer Chiefs looking to add more players in the next transfer window

“Edson is very happy with his extension as it was his desire to continue with club for next years to come. He is committed to help the team win trophies,” he said as per iDiski Times.

Kaizer Chiefs have been linked with several players in the past 12 months and one that has been mentioned the most is Oswin Appollis. The 23-year-old is still with Polokwane City but the likelihood is that this will be his last season with Rise and Shine.

It remains to be seen if Kaizer Chiefs will pounce in the next transfer period. Another top player who has been on Amakhosi’s radar is Fawaaz Basadien. With Chiefs needing a quality left-back, the Stellenbosch experienced defender might be what the club need to return to the top.

Kenyan legend Michael Olunga has also been linked to the Soweto giants.

    Who should Chiefs sign next?
