Mduduzi Mdantsane struggled to find his feet during his Kaizer Chiefs days. The 30-year-old midfielder is now playing for Richards Bay.

Richards Bay midfielder Mduduzi Mdantsane has spoken for the first time since leaving Kaizer Chiefs.

The 30-year-old midfielder is currently on loan to the Natal Rich Boys until the end of the season. Since the arrival of Nasreddine Nabi at Kaizer Chiefs, Mdantsane has not played a single match.

With Amakhosi signing Thabo Cele, the writing was on the wall for the former Cape Town City playmaker.

“Well, it was a mutual agreement between the team and me. I felt I needed some time to play and getting an opportunity to work with Richards Bay as they have a lot of young talents in the team and how they play football,” Mdantsane told FARPost.

“I believed it would suit my style of football and also enjoy myself on the field. So, I feel blessed and grateful to work with the team.

“My stay at Chiefs hasn’t been that long, but as a player, I always try to enjoy each and every moment to be on the field and environment. So, to sum it all up, it has been great and blessed to be around,” Mdantsane said.

Since leaving Kaizer Chiefs, the 30-year-old has only featured once for Richards Bay. He was an unused substitute during their 1-1 draw with Stellenbosch FC this past weekend. With Amakhosi looking stable in the midfield, it looks less likely that Mdantsane will return to Naturena at the end of the season.

Before the start of the season, he was involved in a car accident which saw him missed pre-season thus costing him a place in the Kaizer Chiefs matchday squad.

Sundowns have already netted an astonishing 42 goals in 18 matches, showcasing their incredible offensive firepower. Compare that to last season, when they scored 52 goals in 30 games—it’s clear that their attack has only grown stronger. If Chiefs don’t tighten up their defense, another embarrassing defeat could be on the cards.

Tsotetsi’s Advice: Tactical discipline is non-negotiable

“This is a tricky one. If you check some of the last few games, Chiefs have not been doing much. Now they are facing Sundowns, and they have built some momentum after losing to TS Galaxy a few weeks ago. So, this is going to be a challenging one for Chiefs, who are still building under the coach (Nasreddine Nabi),” Tsotetsi stated.

He emphasizes that Chiefs’ defensive approach will be the deciding factor. “Chiefs’ game plan on the day will be important. They would not want to lose by a big score again, so it will be important to apply themselves, especially in defense. They should deny Sundowns space and time on the ball. We all know that when Sundowns has time and space on the ball, they are dangerous because they understand each other. There are a lot of movements that make it difficult for teams to contain Sundowns. If Chiefs can do that, then they have a chance to win this one or take one point away from them.”

Can Chiefs recover in time?

Chiefs’ last outing ended in disaster—a 4-1 thrashing at the hands of SuperSport United. However, they have had extra time to regroup after their scheduled match against Royal AM was postponed. This additional preparation time could be the key to strengthening their defense and devising a strategy that prevents another crushing defeat.

With Sundowns’ unstoppable attack and Chiefs’ defensive frailties, this upcoming match could define the direction of the season for Amakhosi.
