The Notre Dame women’s fencing team continued its brilliant dynasty by winning its 4th straight ACC championship.
Notre Dame Wins Fourth Straight ACC Women’s Fencing Team Championship
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (theACC.com) – Notre Dame won the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Fencing team title for the fourth straight season, while the Fighting Irish earned five of the nine medals in the men’s individual competition in Sunday’s action at the 2025 ACC Fencing Championships.
The two-day event was held at North Carolina’s Eddie Smith Field House in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
Notre Dame’s Eszter Muhari was named the 2025 ACC Women’s Championship MVP. The reigning Olympic bronze medalist in épée, Muhari won the 2025 épée individual championship on Saturday.
North Carolina’s Eli Lippman earned 2025 ACC Men’s Championship MVP honors after winning the men’s épée individual crown on Sunday. He also was 8-2 during the team competition on Saturday.
The Fighting Irish women won their ninth ACC team championship in the last 11 years, while become the first women’s team to capture four straight ACC fencing titles.
The Fighting Irish decisively won all four of their dual meets and topped Duke, 19-8, in the final dual to clinch the title. Notre Dame’s sabre squad had a dominant performance, with the team of Atara Greenbaum, Siobhan Sullivan and Jadeyn Williams combining to go 35-1 for the day.
Duke finished second in the team competition after winning three of its four duals. Boston College went 2-2 to notch third place, while Stanford was 1-3 in the team competition to place fourth.
The Cardinal defeated North Carolina, 16-11, to earn their first win as they competed in their first-ever ACC Championship.
In the men’s individual competition, the Fighting Irish picked up five of the nine medals, including a pair of gold medals, with Liam Bas earning the foil championship and Radu Nitu notching the sabre title. Stanford scored two medals, while Duke and North Carolina each claimed one medal.
In the épée championship, Lippman won his second ACC championship and first since 2022, outlasting Stanford’s Alexander Jeon, 15-12. Bas dominated in the foil championship bout, winning 15-3 against teammate Dominic Joseph, who was the 2024 ACC champion. In another all-Notre Dame final, Nitu topped teammate Ahmed Hesham, 15-13, for the sabre championship.
